1955年南京大学化学系毕业。

1979-1981年美国Wisconsin大学访问学者。

曾任《Journal of Catalysis》编委(2000-2005)、国际催化协会中国理事（1992-2000）、中国化学会理事长（1995-1998）、教育部高等学校化学教学指导委员会主任(1995-2000)、国务院学位委员会化学学科评议组召集人(1997-2002)。

发表论文250余篇。
